Pokémon card values held up well in 2022 amidst a difficult macro environment
Collectible cards have had a tremendous 5-year run and Pokémon is no exception—up 394% since the beginning of 2018 according to Card Ladder. But 2022 was a bit tougher. Prewar vintage cards—cards released before 1945—had a great year buoyed by some massive record-breaking sale, but sports and other markets weren't as fortunate. In spite of that, Pokémon held its own against the sports sector

Card Ladder Indexes for 2022
In an interview with Sports Collector Daily, Card Ladder Co-Founder Chris McGill had this to say when asked about 2022 card values across all markets.
If I were to theorize about price trends, I’d start by looking at who the buyers and sellers are in a particular category and what they’re up to. For example, is a market dominated by collectors or speculators and flippers? Although Card Ladder doesn’t offer a way to empirically measure this, my anecdotal observation is that the Modern and Ultra-Modern markets became overheated by a subset of folks focused on speculation and flipping over the last few years. Many of them seem to have left the industry this year, causing prices to fall.
Recession or no recession, no one knows what 2023 holds, but we're gonna keep collecting with the confidence that Pokémon has established itself as reliable store of value relative to other collectibles. Everything bounces back, and there's no substitute for rarity.
Pokemon TCG: 10 Decks That Defined 2022
2022 was a great year for Pokemon TCG releases if you're a fan of modern art, and these are the decks that made the biggest splash.
The question we ask ourselves but only sometimes: Are Pokémon cards a good investment?
We're passion-first collectors. We're in it for the love of Pokémon. Some of our cards are worth more than our first car (low bar tbh) while some just...look dope. Either way, it'd be foolish not to occasionally think about what these things are worth. Like, is our love of Snorlax blinding us to a bottomless money pit? The answer might surprise you.
Scarlet & Violet Holo Effects Revealed. GIFs after the jump!
Scarlet & Violet‘s foil cards will feature a “horizontal sheen.” The borders of the cards will also be foil, thanks to the loss of yellow borders. But "horizontal sheen" doesn't really do the effect justice. These cards catch the light in a way that creates a trippy frame for the lovable new art.
SLAB BAG OFFER

We've got a special offer for anyone looking to add hits to their collection: slab bags in three value tiers, vintage to modern.
